Although the engineering firm took remedial action once notified of the situation, including terminating the supervisor who allegedly told the offensive jokes, the firm still face significant exposure under the law. With jury verdicts in similar cases exceeding $1,000,000, this matter settled before trial for $495,000. Attorney's fees and other defense costs totatled more than $250,000.
