National Guardianship Association » Notary Public Coverage

The NGA endorsed professional liability policy underwritten by Lloyd's of London is designed to be quite adaptable to individual circumstances. Over the years, Dominion Insurance Services has worked closely with Lloyd's underwriters to develop a broad menu of optional coverages that can be added by endorsement. Most of these carry a premium surcharge, but some do not. For example, the notary public endorsement is available at no charge.

With the cost of notarization rising, many offices are simply licensing an employee to act as an in-house notary. The endorsement simply adds "Notary Public" to the list of insured capacities under the definition of Professional Services found in section V of the Policy. The endorsement also includes a standard notary exclusion which precludes coverage for any Claim arising out of or in any way related to any notarization performed by any Assured absent the immediate physical presence of the signatory.

So, fiduciaries with in-house notaries should make sure to request that the Notary Public endorsement be added to their policy. After all, it's free.
